Walt Nixon

Walt serves as acting President of Chief Energy, where he leads all disciplines across the organization and oversees the company’s mineral, royalty, and non-operated working interest portfolio across U.S. onshore basins. Walt began his career as a field landman in the Barnett Shale, working with Carla Petroleum on projects for various oil and gas clients, including Chief Oil & Gas. He supported due diligence efforts associated with Chief’s 2006 asset sales in the Barnett and joined the company full-time in 2007.

From 2007 to 2010, Walt held roles of increasing responsibility at Chief, ultimately serving as Marcellus Project Coordinator in Dallas and Pittsburgh. Chief grew significantly during this period, and in 2010, Chief sold a portion of its Marcellus assets to Chevron. Following the Chevron sale, Walt joined Tug Hill Operation as Vice President of Land before returning to Dallas in 2014 to join Rees-Jones Holdings. . Since then, Walt has played a key role in building and expanding the Chief Energy portfolio through the deployment of various mineral and leasehold acquisition strategies. With nearly two decades of industry experience, he continues to drive the company’s long-term growth and operational success.

Walt holds a B.A. in Economics and a B.F.A in Studio Art from the University of Texas.
